Elanga goal scorer again for United

Anthony Elanga has been given more and more chances in Manchester United’s A-team. This weekend, the 19-year-old Swede became a goal scorer in the meeting with the Championship team Queens Park Rangers – and tonight Elanga struck again in a training match against Premier League newcomer Brentford at Old Trafford.

Elanga’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors’ defense were able to clear the ball. The goal meant 1-0 for Manchester United in a match that ended 2-2.

Elanga was replaced after an hour of play, and after the match he was awarded an eight in a rating on a ten-point scale by the local newspaper Manchester Evening News, best in the team together with the other goal scorer Andreas Pereira. “Perfect technique on his volley that gave United 1-0 and his mobility pulled out Brentford”, writes the newspaper, which also calls the 1-0 shot a “brilliant volley”.

Elanga is also praised by coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær after the match.

– He has done very well. We know he’s a good player. He is a good guy, he always works hard and with a smile, and wonders what more he can do, says Solskjær about Elanga on Manchester United’s twitter account.

Solskjær continues:

– He is so hungry to develop and get better. He can play on the left wing, the right wing, as a forward … He will be an asset.

Last season, Elanga made two Premier League appearances for United, scoring one goal in the league.

Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was not in the United squad for tonight’s match, and Potnus Jansson was missing for Brentford.

Manchester United start the Premier League season at home against Leeds United on 14 August.
