Major damage has been caused in part of northern Italy after heavy rainfall. In the Lombardy region, severely affected by the torrential rains, a state of emergency has been declared for the provinces of Varese, Como and Lecco, among others.
East of Lake Maggiore, firefighters were called to dozens of spots in Varese. Heavy rainfall caused landslides and flooding there. Footage shows mudslides dragging cars and entering homes.
