Climatic indicators have deteriorated significantly

Experts pointed to an unprecedented surge in natural disasters related to environmental change.

Scientists from seven countries have assessed global climate changes over the past year and stated that the situation is close to critical. The researchers’ article was published in the journal BioScience.

On the eve of publication Climate Change Report The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which includes representatives from the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Bangladesh and Germany, has published an update.

It is noted that compared to 2019, there was an unprecedented surge in natural disasters related to climate change, including devastating floods, record heat waves, severe storms and wildfires.

In April this year, the content of carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere reached 416 parts per million. This is the highest average monthly concentration on record.

“There is growing evidence that we are approaching or have passed tipping points in important parts of the earth system such as coral reefs, the Amazon rainforest, the West Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets,” said lead author, ecology professor William Ripple.

Researchers are calling for drastic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions (especially methane), strategic climate reserves for storing carbon, charging for carbon use, and protecting biodiversity.

Scientists associate the annual deterioration of climatic indicators with the fact that humanity continues to ruthlessly exploit the Earth “as usual.”
