Review of Hell Let Loose – a battlefield for the demanding

With its absolutely bombastic trailers, this game will easily captivate every fan of modern shooters, such as Call of Duty or Battlefield. But before you start buying the game, it is especially useful in this case to find out more about it. The first important piece of information is that this is a purely multiplayer affair without a story campaign. And the second important piece of information is that it is by no means a “run-and-gun” wild event. Hell Let Loose is much closer to ArmA-type military simulators.

Tactics and communication

A game so complex doesn’t just come out of nowhere. As part of the Early Access approach, it has been collecting fans on Steam since June 2019, with Australian creators treating the community and feedback fairly honestly: publishing weekly information about the game community for the fan community, and the game itself has received ten major updates to date. It was today’s upgrade that upgraded it to version 1.0 and ended its preliminary approach. In addition to the overall stabilization of the game and the launch of its sharp sales, it also means the addition of the Eastern Front to the game, including the Russian army with its weapons and vehicles, plus new maps of Kursk and Stalingrad.

Hell Let Loose thus offers a total of 11 really large game maps, depicting a number of the most famous war locations across the western and eastern fronts – from the beaches of Omaha or Utah through Carentan to the aforementioned Stalingrad. On these maps, players compete in groups of 50 against 50, which are further divided into specific units of two to six players, according to their role (for example, a sniper with a spotter is always a two-member team, the tank crew requires three players, while an infantry combat unit can be up to six members). Each unit has its own commander and above all there is one main commander, coordinating all units.

Players compete in groups of 50 against 50, divided into specific units.

If the previous paragraph came to you unnecessarily specific, then know that the organization and related communication of players is the most important in this game. The weapon settings are really closest to military simulators, so one blow to the head from any weapon will kill you immediately, but you won’t often survive more than one or two hits in the body either. If you add to that a realistic fight often over long distances, you will constantly die while trying to run around the battlefield like in a “normal shooter”, without even knowing where the hit came from. This is the type of game where you need to crawl in the grass and most importantly: coordinate with your unit the enemy’s tactical bypasses, as well as supplies, artillery support and other tactical functions.

A unique experience

The serious format of the game also supports the matchmaking system, where you will not find any option to “connect me quickly to a game”. You have to choose from individual servers in the menu (official and community), where you can see in advance what the battle is going on, how many players are already participating or waiting in line to connect, and the server description also often indicates how serious the player is. hardcore “roleplay” servers). Fans of the game are well aware that communication is key, so the vast majority of them use microphones. If you really want to enjoy playing and have a chance not only for your own good score, but especially for victory, you should also turn on the headset. The absolute best way to experience the game is, of course, to join it directly in a team with similarly attuned friends.

In any case, once you manage to become part of a decently communicating and cooperating unit, one of the most powerful gaming experiences of this type awaits you. The game looks absolutely amazing and, in contrast to more demanding military simulators, it is much easier to control – the movement and shooting itself are fast and responsive in a way that we know more from classic commercial shooters. But don’t try to play with the controller, it is not fully supported enough. Also, the AI sometimes gets a little angry, but it’s nothing drastic. While playing the highest details, I managed to keep 60 fps at 4K resolution on my set (i7-9700F, 16GB DDR4, RTX 2070 Super) without any problems and I was really impressed by the size and detail of the maps or the effect of special effects during raids, etc. is, of course, a very deep game in which it is easy to drown thousands of hours and constantly discover new layers. Perhaps our reviews have helped you get an idea of whether you want to get started.
