Jakarta –
Lazio were held to a draw by Serie C side Padova in a pre-season friendly. Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri frustrated with the team’s performance.
Lazio underwent a test match against Padova at their training camp at Auronzo di Cadore, Wednesday (28/7/2021) early morning WIB. Lazio conceded first in the 18th minute after Della Latta beat Pepe Reina.
Lazio just equalized in the 41st minute through Luis Alberto’s penalty. Lazio received a penalty following a foul on Elseid Hysaj.
On the sidelines, Sarri often expresses his frustration with Lazio’s performance. He considered Lazio chaotic, did not maintain his position, and was too slow in flowing the ball.
“We always lose in anticipation of wild balls. Always! We just walk on the pitch. We can’t defend like this, just stand and watch them,” said one of Sarri’s complaints on the touchline, as quoted Football Italia.
Lazio midfielder Gonzalo Escalante did not deny that Sarri did ask his team to play fast. Escalante admits that Lazio are still getting used to Sarri’s style of play.
“The coach asked us to move the ball at 2,000 km/h, more cohesive. We are still trying to fully understand it,” Escalante told Sportitalia after the game.
The match against Padova also closes Lazio’s training camp at Auronzo di Cadore. They will then return to Rome for a summer tour.
Lazio is scheduled to travel to the Netherlands to face Twente in a test match on Sunday (8/8/2021) early morning hrs. The match against Twente will be Lazio’s last test match ahead of the 2021/2022 Italian League.
Lazio will kick off Serie A away to Empoli on 22 August.
