Thousands of foreigners who left Indonesia and returned to their country also happened to Chinese citizens. From 1 to 23 July alone, there were 2,056 residents China who left RI and decided to return home.
This data was obtained from Class I Immigration Special for Immigration Checkpoints (TPI) Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
“We don’t know the reason for our departure,” said Head of Immigration Tikim Soekarno-Hatta Airport Sam Fernando when asked for confirmation by CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (27/7/2021).
Apart from citizens China, it is also known that as many as 2,387 Japanese citizens have left Indonesia. This number is followed by South Korea (1,537), United States (1,280), France (794), United Kingdom (664), Russia (644), Germany (563), Netherlands (475), Saudi Arabia (455), and India ( 449).
A number of citizens from the Southeast Asian region were also recorded to have left Indonesia. There are 353 Filipino citizens who have left Indonesia, followed by Thailand (207), Malaysia (295), and Singapore (112).
So far, there has been no official announcement from the Chinese Embassy asking its citizens to leave Indonesia. This is different from a number of Japanese companies or the government of Saudi Arabia which specifically asked their citizens to leave Indonesia immediately.
Concerns about the skyrocketing Covid-19 cases in Indonesia are suspected to be the cause. This is in line with the emergence of the highly contagious Delta variant. Plus full medical facilities and lack of oxygen in hospitals in Indonesia.
Indonesia itself is listed as the 4th country with the most corona cases in Asia. According to Worldometers data as of Tuesday, Indonesia has a total of more than 3.1 million cases of Corona infection and more than 84,000 deaths due to the virus.
