Covid-19 Patients Are Asymptomatic but PCR Positive? This is the reason

JAKARTA – Covid-19 patient often don’t feel symptom whatever after undergoing self isolation or treatment process as recommended by a doctor. However, when doing PCR test repeatedly the results are consistently positive.

This can happen because although PCR is an examination that is able to detect the genetic material of a virus, it cannot distinguish whether the virus is still alive or dead.

“Because the virus eradication process is very much determined by our immune system,” said Clinical Pathology Specialist at Premier Bintaro Hospital, dr. Lismawati, Sp.PK quoted from the YouTube channel Premier Bintaro Hospital, Monday (26/7).

Basically, medically the symptoms that occur in Covid-19 patients will last for 10 to 15 days. However, in most cases, corona virus in the body can still be detected.

According to dr. Lismawati, it is difficult to determine whether what is detected in the body is only the remnants of a virus or a living virus. Therefore, additional analysis is needed.

“The interpretation of the PCR results must be analyzed with additional patient clinical data and other supporting data carried out by a competent doctor,” he said.
