Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russia heated up with the West. In fact, President Vladímir Putin said the country’s military is ready to attack the enemy at any time if necessary.
In an interview with local television at Moscow’s World Trade Center on Sunday (25/7/2021), Putin said the Russian Navy could easily detect an opponent. Including, launching “unpreventable attacks”.
“We are able to detect the enemy underwater, above the water, in the air,” he said in the interview, quoted CNBC International, Monday (26/7/2021).
“If needed, (we can) carry out attacks that cannot be prevented.”
The threat from Putin comes weeks after a British warship angered Russia by passing through the Crimean peninsula. The territory is in the Black Sea and has been under Russian control since 2014.
In June, an incident in the Black Sea occurred when Russia said it had fired a warning shot and dropped a bomb in the path of a British warship. This was done to drive him out of Crimean waters.
However, Britain rejected Russia’s report of the incident. They said they believed every shot fired was the previously announced Russian “cannon drill”, and that no bombs were dropped.
Russia occupied Crimea from Ukraine. However, Britain and the West still recognize the Black Sea peninsula as part of Kiev instead of Moscow.
Last month, Putin said Russia could have sunk the British warship HMS Defender, which it accused of illegally entering its territorial waters, without starting a Third World War. He also said the United States (US) played a role in the “provocation” in this regard.
