Greece is preparing for an extremely strong heat wave, and the temperature is expected to rise to 44 degrees Celsius in the coming days. Both the Greek National Meteorological Service and the Civil Protection Agency have warned about this.
It is expected that from Tuesday, July 27, the temperature at night will not fall below 30 degrees, preventing people from recovering from the heat.
There are also concerns about the rapid spread of forest fires, as strong winds are forecast. In addition, little has rained in recent weeks.
Greece has suffered from severe heat waves before, however
forecast unprecedented weather in the coming days.
A similar heat wave in 1987, before the widespread use of air conditioners, killed about 4,000 people.
