Mucormycosis, a black fungus infection filled with myths, this is a fact

Even though it is dangerous, various myths of black fungus as a result of Covid-19 need to be straightened out.

GridHEALTH.id – Infection black mushroom (Mucormycosis) was recently declared a disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 in several states across India, following an extreme spike in the number of cases.

The country has so far seen more than 40,000 cases but what is eye-catching is that more than 85% of people are diagnosed with the infection black mushroom have Covid-19.

In Indonesia, it has been circulating on social media, that the infection black mushroom (Mucormycosis) has infected at least two people. One of them will even have his eyeballs removed..

What’s that Mucormycosis? Previously called Zygomycosis, mucormycosis or black mushroom is a fungal infection that occurs when humans breathe in a fungus called mucor whose spores are already present in soil and organic matter, including animal droppings, vegetable dust, leaves, and so on.

The infection basically results in darkening of the skin in the affected area.

These spores are more common in summer and monsoons than in winter. Most people come into contact with microscopic fungal spores on a daily basis, so it may not be possible to completely avoid exposure to mold.

The increase in cases of yeast infection in severe Covid-19 patients has been linked to the overuse of steroids (such as dexamethasone), which is used in the treatment of the coronavirus.
