The announcement of the new Sonic the Hedgehog title two months ago was very early. Takashi Iizuka tells this in an interview.
During a real Sonic the Hedgehog presentation, everything revolved around the famous blue hedgehog. The Sonic Central stream taught us that we are working on Sonic Origins and on Sonic Color: Ultimate, with the latter already being released next September. Finally, the presentation concluded with a teaser of a new 3D Sonic game, whose official title is not yet known. Iizuka indicates that the announcement was rather premature. The reason for this is that they haven’t announced anything to fans since the announcement of Sonic Forces. Due to the Blue Hedgehog’s thirtieth anniversary, Iizuka and his friends couldn’t pass up the opportunity to announce a new 3D Sonic game. Below you can see the teaser that was shown at the time.
So for the time being, we don’t have to expect much news about the Sonic game. The working title Sonic 2022 points to a release sometime next year. Since Iikuza indicates that the announcement was premature, it is likely that the game should be released sometime in late 2022.
