Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, accepting warships dedicated to Navy Day, said Russian naval forces had a unique armament that could deliver an “irresistible blow” to any opponent.
“Russia’s naval armaments now have everything they need to (..) detect any enemy underwater, on the water and in the air and, if necessary, give him an irresistible blow,” Putin said, noting that the fleet had powerful ocean-going ships and nuclear submarines, shore defense complexes, aviation and high precision supersonic systems.
“The naval armament still has no peers in the world, and we are constantly improving it,” the president said.
Russia reportedly tested the supersonic cruise missile “Zircon” earlier this week. Moscow reported on supersonic missile tests as early as 2018, when Putin called it an “ideal weapon.”
The United States, China, France and other major powers have also announced plans to develop their own supersonic weapons.
