For his part, Kinzinger has also announced in a statement that he has “humbly” accepted Pelosi’s request and trusts that after months of “lies and conspiracy theories have spread,” the United States will be able to learn “the truth about how and why thousands of people came forward to attack democracy “that January 6.
“Let me be clear, I am a Republican dedicated to conservative values, but I took an oath of defense of the Constitution, and although this is not the position I expected or sought, when duty calls, I will always respond,” Kinzinger said, one of the ten Republicans in the House of Representatives who voted to prosecute the former president for what happened on Capitol Hill.
The committee, led by Democrat Bennie Thompson, will investigate the events surrounding the deadly January 6 attack on the United States Capitol by a crowd of supporters of former President Trump in an effort to stop the certification of his electoral defeat.
