TOKYO Indonesia managed to add one silver medal in the event Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Sunday (25/7/2021). The additional one medal was thanks to the action of Indonesia’s mainstay lifter, Eko Yuli Irawan who successfully placed second in the men’s 61 kg weightlifting sport.

There were actually eight Indonesian athletes who took part today. However, there were only two athletes, namely Eko Yuli and Deni who appeared in the final round and competed for medals.

Eko Yuli, who appeared in the afternoon, successfully brought a silver medal with a record of 302 kg when performing at the Tokyo International Forum. He only lost to a weightlifter from China, Li Fabin, who posted a total force of 313 kg.

Meanwhile, Deni himself, who appeared at night, failed to deliver any medals for Indonesia. Deni could not contribute a medal because he was unable to penetrate the top three.

Deni, who fell in the men’s 67 kg class, posted a total of 301 kg. The result has not been good to make it into the top three, even he himself is in ninth place with these results.

In addition to looking for weightlifting, there is also an Indonesian representative in badminton. The Indonesian representatives who appeared in the badminton sport were Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, and Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti.

The three Indonesian representatives succeeded in winning in the group stage. The success of the three badminton athletes in the country was also successfully followed by surfing athlete, Rio Waida.

Rio Waida successfully advanced to the last 16 of the men’s shortboard surfing after passing through two preliminary rounds. In the first preliminary round, Rio Waida collected 5.13 points in the first wave and 4.83 in the second wave.

This achievement made him perched in third place in the first preliminary round. Because only the best two could directly qualify for the last 16, Rio Waida had to return to the second preliminary round.

It was in the second preliminary round that Rio Waida was able to occupy the second position and was entitled to advance to the last 16 and will directly face the representative of Japan, Konoa Igarashi on Monday 26 July 2021.

Unfortunately, the positive result of Rio Waida was not followed by Melani Putri/Mutiara Rahma Putri who took part in the ladies’ sport. They failed to qualify for the semifinals in the Women’s Lightweight Double Sculls.
