Curfew in Afghanistan against Taliban

The Afghan government has imposed a curfew in much of the country in the fight against the advancing Taliban. In 31 of the 34 provinces, people are no longer allowed to leave the house between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Only the provinces of Kabul, Panjshir and Nangarhar are exempt from the curfew.

Violence between the Taliban and the Afghan government has escalated in the past two months. With the withdrawal of international troops after nearly 20 years, the Taliban are tightening their grip on the country. The extremist Islamist movement is estimated to control about half of the country, the Taliban say self conquer more territory.

According to experts, the loss of US air support since May is an important reason for the advance of the Taliban. Afghan officers also indicate that they can no longer act effectively at night as a result.

Feast of Sacrifice

The Pentagon announced Thursday that it has been forced to launch airstrikes to support Afghan forces, even as the Americans continue with their withdrawal. The Taliban warned yesterday that the United States must stop doing so.

“It is a clear violation of the agreement, which will have consequences,” the group warned, referring to de deal between the US and the Taliban, which was a prelude to the withdrawal of international forces. The Afghan government has also been warned not to launch an offensive.

Earlier this week, the Taliban announced that they would only take a defensive position in connection with Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. Since Thursday, that party is over.
