Sunday 20 June 2021, the inhabitants of Seine-Saint-Denis are called to vote at first round of departmental elections which are held on the same day as the regional elections.
Left and right fight for victory
In total, 112 pairs are declared in the 21 cantons, that is to say 224 candidates. Among the favorites, the “united left”, carried by Stephane Troussel, outgoing socialist president of the departmental council. Around him, socialists (PS), ecologists (EELV), communists (PCF) and members of Génération.s and the Republican and Socialist Left (GRS) hope to keep the departmental council on the left, as has been the case since its creation. in 1967.
Since 2015, the left has been at the head of 12 cantons, against 9 for the opposition. A close match is therefore announced with the right led by Senator Les Républicains, Philippe Dallier who presents himself in the canton of Bondy with Oldhynn Pierre. The tenors of the right in the department, Brigitte Marsigny at Bruno Beschizza firmly believe in an electoral reconquest. They can count on the support of the UDI in the image of the mayor Aubervilliers Karine Franclet who presents himself in pairs with one of his deputies, the Republican Samuel martin.
In a statement to Journal du Grand Paris Philippe Dallier wants to be confident: “There are 21 cantons and we need two to have a majority. There are five which are considered to be able to change sides, three from left to right and two from right to left ”.
Four key cantons
Cantons well identified by the left which started its campaign in Noisy-le-Grand and Aubervilliers. On the latter, the alliance of Karine Franclet and the Republicans, threatens this constituency historically anchored to the left. Facing them, the Left has invested two novices: Corinne Narassiguin (PS) and Anthony Daguet (PC). A high stake canton where the presence of rebellious candidacies (LFI), various left and various right will referee the match.
A Noisy-le-Grand, this is the outgoing duo Emmanuel Constant (PS) and Frederique Denis (EELV) who announced his candidacy. The task will be difficult since they will face the mayor (LR) Brigitte Marsigny who was invested with his first deputy Eric Allemon. Conversely, the left has great hopes of victory in two high-stakes cantons held by the right: Saint-Ouen and Sevran, two “offensive” cantons.
A Saint-Ouen, if the two outgoing departmental councilors do not represent themselves, it is a duel of mayors which is announced. The former mayor of the city William Delannoy (SE), has partnered with Marina Venturini (LR). They will be opposed to the current mayor, the socialist Karim Bouamrane, in tandem with the communist Emilie Lecroq. With his victory in the 2020 municipal elections, the mayor of Saint-Ouen will also be able to count on the absence of an LFI candidacy in the canton and thus avoid a scattering of left voices.
A citizen list in ambush
In the city of Kaaris, the right could also lose big. This is Martine Valleton, mayor (LR) of Villepinte, in tandem with Philippe Geffroy who will try to keep his mandate and prevent any reconquest of the pinks, reds and greens. The latter are represented by the mayor (DVG) of Sevran, Stephane Blanchet associated with the ecologist Melissa Youssouf. Rare enough to be reported, the two lists will face a presidential majority ticket made up of Fabrice Scagni (LREM) and de Jeannine Yana (I KNOW).
In general, in the department, the pairs labeled La République en Marche can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Facing the two Goliaths, we find a citizen list with the collective “La Seine-Saint-Denis au cœur“, Recently created, which brings together residents, associative activists and some elected officials close to the Communists or the rebels.
The spokesperson for the collective, Aly Diouara who is responsible for associations is present in the canton of The Courneuve – Dugny – Le Bourget. The list will be present in all in three cantons, ie eight towns in the department.
Remains an unknown, abstention which risks playing the leading roles.
