Dutch microbiologist and epidemiologist Marc Sprenger, who was in Suriname in June as a special envoy of a mission to help combat the medical emergency, will return to Suriname at the end of July for up to three months to advise the Ministry of Health regarding the covid -19 combat. Marc Sprenger comes at the request of President Chandrikapersad Santokhi as part of the Surinamese-Dutch program Makandra.
Sprenger will issue advice regarding the entire vaccination operation and the establishment of a Prevention Authority. In addition, Sprenger will advise on how to provide better care for covid-19 patients and improve collaboration between hospitals and the distribution of medicines and devices.
In addition, Sprenger will also provide advice on increasing the vaccination rate in Suriname to reduce the pressure on healthcare. To this end, he will improve the provision of information about vaccinations, support the plan to vaccinate residents in the interior of Suriname, analyze the vaccine need and stimulate the delivery of vaccines.
Sprenger will also advise on the roadmap for establishing a Surinamese Prevention Authority. He will also make proposals to improve our Covid-19 organizations such as the Outbreak Management Team, the microbiological laboratories and the collaboration with the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
At the mission in June, Suriname received a donation of vaccines, medical oxygen and personal protective equipment from the Netherlands.
