Modern Vaccine in Cartagena | THE UNIVERSAL

A few days after starting with the vaccination in the country and also in the city with the Moderna biological, the question that many ask is what is the difference between this and the other vaccines? And is that every time a new immunological has arrived, what is sought is to be prepared in case it is the one that the person is going to receive at the time of vaccination. Now that the vaccination range has been expanded and people 30 years of age and older will be able to get vaccinated as well, even more questions arise.

“This July 25, 3.5 million vaccines against # covid19 from the #Moderna pharmaceutical company will arrive in the country, donated by the US We appreciate this gesture of solidarity from the President @POTUS @joebiden with the Colombian people, which confirms the strong relationship between our countries, ”the president wrote on Twitter.

About Cartagena, Ana Margarita Sánchez Vergara, coordinator of the COVID Vaccination Plan in Dadis told The universal that “we must wait for the vaccines (from Moderna) to arrive in the country and say how they are going to distribute them to the different territories in order to know which population it is aimed at.”

Let’s talk about Moderna

Moderna’s vaccine, like Pfizer’s, has as its main component the RNA that codes for the production of the SARS CoV-2 protein S. It is important to mention that all the vaccines available in Cartagena: Pfizer (for second doses and determined population), Janssen, Astraseneca and Sinovac, are effective for the prevention of the virus. However, Moderna’s vaccine is one of the most effective, with 93.6% after Pfizer, which has 94.6% (both percentages after the second dose is applied).

The AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccines are non-replicative viral vector vaccines, both adenovirus, although of different types, which contain the genetic material (DNA) that codes for the production of the SARS-CoV-2 protein S.

Another interesting fact that is worth mentioning about this vaccine is that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved on Friday the use of the Modern Covid vaccine for young people between 12 and 17 years old. This is the second drug authorized for adolescents in the 27 countries of the European Union (EU), the other vaccine is Pfizer.

* Side effects were made taking into account the application of the vaccine in Spain. Half of adults in Europe, 200 million people, are vaccinated against Covid-19, the European Commission declared on Thursday (22.07.2021).
