From January 2022, the Maldives government is introducing a Departure Tax in the amount of $ 30 to $ 130. This was announced on Thursday, July 22, by the agency. RIA Novosti.
It is noted that in this way the authorities of the islands intend to replace the airport taxes currently levied.
So, starting from the new year, foreigners flying in economy class will pay $ 30, business class – $ 60, first class – $ 90 and private jet – $ 130. These amounts will be included in the airfare.
At the same time, passengers with diplomatic immunity and children under two years of age are exempt from tax.
According to the Minister of Tourism of the Maldives, Abdullah Mausum, this practice exists in other countries. In addition, in his opinion, most tourists will not have problems with additional fees, since the Maldives is a “high market” destination.
