The construction of Pukkelpop has been stopped and ticket sales have been taken offline. The organization of the festival is asking for clarification from the federal government about ‘unexpected changes’, it sounds in a press release. Pukkelpop has been aware of the rules for the covid safe ticket since Tuesday.

The works on the festival site in Kiewit have been suspended for two days, and ticket sales are also flat. The organization released a statement today with more explanation: “The unexpected changes, announced after the Consultation Committee last Monday, have major consequences for the further organization of Pukkelpop”, it sounds.

Pukkelpop talks about the test procedures for major events and the so-called covid safe ticket. Until now, the festival had assumed that festival visitors had to submit a negative test that was not older than 72 hours, but that has now been reduced to 48 hours. This means that festival-goers should have themselves tested on the site several times. In addition, Pukkelpop claims that antigen testing is no longer accepted, only PCR testing. The festival organization urgently asks the federal government for clarification.

But the cabinet of Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke denies that only the PCR test is valid. According to the cabinet, antigen tests are possible with a validity of 24 hours. Vandenbroucke emphasized this once again on the Journaal.

Different straps

“That means that if you want to go to Pukkelpop on Friday with a negative antigen test, you can stay on the festival site until Saturday evening. If you want to go again on Sunday, you have to get tested again.”

Whether that is feasible for the Pukkelpop organization? “We will work with an app that will indicate how long the negative tests are valid. For example, the organization can work with different bands to make the distinction visible,” says the minister. “If Pukkelpop adheres to the agreed rules, it can continue perfectly.”

There is currently no cancellation of Pukkelpop, although there is brainstorming about feasible ways to check visitors for corona. “There are 101 reasons for shutting down the works. And yes, the corona measures are part of that,” Patrick Breugelmans of the organization told Het Belang van Limburg. “We are ahead of schedule anyway.”

On the basis of an internal survey, the general practitioners’ association Domus Medica called on Monday to stop mass events, such as Pukkelpop or the Grand Prix of Francorchamps, in August. “The harsh reality is that the numbers aren’t going in the right direction, as much as we’d like to see it differently. And we know from the past that things can suddenly go quickly,” said chairman Roel Van Giel.
