(CRHoy.com) .- Specialists from the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) assured that they fear that protection with a single dose of the vaccine, be low against the arrival of the Delta variant.
According to Cristian Pérez of the microbiology laboratory of the National Children’s Hospital (HNN), the variant in the country can cause many problems even with vaccinationsince many people only have one dose.
This becomes the main concern of health authorities, since recent studies show how after 3 weeks of applying the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, this generates a protection of only 33%.
Pérez assured that the protection of the vaccine is reduced when only one dose is applied; However, with the second the protection increases and the variant would not do more damage.
The same study mentioned showed that the protection when you have the complete scheme with the Pfizer vaccine, is of the 96%.
Given this, the CCSS doctor, Guiselle Guzmán Saborío, assured that it is required to have a complete scheme as soon as possible in all Costa Ricans, so the institution hopes to vaccinate more quickly.
