Gafsa | The Regional Blood Transfusion Center: There is nothing to panic about, but …

The latest warning cry launched by the director of the CNTS (national blood transfusion center) was perceived as a call to raise awareness about the provisions of “red gold” which had dropped to the two-day threshold.

Worrisome for an index that gives food for thought, especially as during the summer season, voluntary blood donation observes a palpable drop in view of the closure of schools which are the main providers of regional centers through blood drives, and this without taking account of parental donors who can in no case ensure security provisions throughout the year.

But what a story in the governorate of Gafsa. A detour via the CRTS (regional blood transfusion center) lets admit that the center somehow manages to meet the needs and necessities even if the inventory imposes corrections both in terms of basic infrastructure and hardware level.

Dr Said Nakhli, head of the Gafsa center, expresses himself: “opened in April 1998, our center covers the needs of 5 governorates (Gafsa, Kasserine, Sidi Bouzid, kebili and Tozeur), a geographical area of coverage beyond the resources available. disposition. As we speak, our provisions are estimated at 150 pockets. Of course, we should not fall into self-sufficiency for this precious product, but there is nothing to panic, especially with the cessation of surgical activity because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are safe from the shortage. “

The cry of alarm launched by the director of the CNTS found favorable echoes among the voluntary donors and about twenty joined the center to donate their blood.

Our provisions show a significant drop during the summer and this is supported by the closure of schools.

For parental donors, what is donated is delivered on behalf of their patient and cannot replenish our supplies.

Admittedly, in view of what was brought to us by our interlocutor, this overview aspires to a relative peace of mind, except that certain shortcomings which were pointed out to us by the master of the places require corrections which urgently take into account the range of geographic coverage.

The room which dates from 1998 is too small to contain the activity of the center while the project to move to a new building is postponed to Greek calendars for reasons to be clarified. There are also refrigerators for storing blood products which have undergone the wear and tear of time to ensure storage under the required conditions.

And as the WHO has declared since 2005, on June 14 of each year “world blood donor day”, the culture of the citizen eligible for blood donation needs to be anchored in our mores and customs to make it a culture.

Work on the plate dedicated to the national blood donation committee. To the best of my mind….
