“At the beginning of August, it will be a ticket, a mask and the health pass”, warned the CEO of SCNF Travelers, Christophe Fanichet, on RTL this Thursday July 22 while the Parliament leans over government bill providing in particular for the extension of sanitary pass in trains at the beginning of August in order to curb the epidemic of Covid-19 in France.
SNCF intends to control sanitary passes on trains, even if this represents a “Operational challenge for the company”, recognized Christophe Fanichet who points out that « 750 trains [TGV] leave every day “ in France, representative “400,000 travelers”.
“Massive controls”
“These are controls that will be massive, that we will do everywhere and at all times”, warned the CEO, specifying that the controls can be done on boarding, on board the train and on disembarking.
Christophe Fanichet recognizes that it will be difficult to control everyone when boarding, hence the possibility of controlling in the train and when exiting the train.
“To carry out massive checks on a Oui Go that can carry 1,200 travelers, the checks will be of several types: at the dock, on boarding, but also on board, and even on disembarkation, that is to say, that a passenger can be checked at three points in his journey, a bit like the train ticket ”, he explained.
The CEO also indicated that the date of application of the health pass in trains could be August 5 or 6 without advancing on the exact date, relying on the bill. “The application of the health pass will be done as soon as the government gives the signal to start at the beginning of August”, he explained, recalling that the measure is currently being discussed in Parliament and could then be referred to the Constitutional Council. “We are preparing for August 5 or 6 for the first controls”, he still let go.
Who will carry out the pass controls?
“I first have confidence in the good citizenship of the French to be the holder of this health pass”, launched the boss of the SNCF, stressing the respect of the wearing of the mask by the French since May.
Christophe Fanichet explained that the railway workers will be responsible in particular for carrying out checks on sanitary passes using a tool they already have to read QR codes. SNCF agents will also be supported by the police, he added.
Christophe Fanichet also recalled that the golden rule remains the mandatory wearing of a mask on the train, the most effective measure against the spread of the virus: “The mask is health protection, the pass is the incentive for vaccination », Commented the CEO of SNCF.
