The Servizo Galego de Saúde (Sergas) activates the self-appointment for the vaccine against covid-19 for those under 20 years of age. After yesterday the president of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, remarked on several occasions that there was no availability of vaccines for those under 30 years of age, the Sergas activated yesterday without prior announcement a vaccination campaign that in the late afternoon collapsed the dating platform. Young people found out through word of mouth.
Alberto Núñez Feijoo has confirmed this morning, after the Council of the Xunta, that those under 20 will be able to self-cite for the vaccine. Yesterday 6,000 could do it throughout Galicia and tomorrow another 11,000 will be able to do it. Although those from yesterday were summoned for next week, those who sign up tomorrow will be vaccinated in the first week of August.
Feijoo confirms that there is demand while remarking that there are no vaccines. He has justified this decision in that the Accumulated Incidence (AI) of adolescents worries about their high risk of contagion. However, the data from the Xunta itself reflect that the AI for the 20-29 year age bracket is higher (2012 from 14 days) to that for those under 20 (1,843 to 14 days). Measured by Cumulative Incidence, the risk of contagion among those over 20 years of age is, therefore, higher.
Health sources recognized this morning their astonishment, since the possibility that those under 20 could be vaccinated had not been contemplated due to the lack of supply of vaccines. It was planned that it would still be next week when the appointments for those between 20-29 in the health area of A Coruña and Cee would begin.
Surprise among the young
Towards the late afternoon of this Wednesday, the Sergas platform allowed those born between 2002 and 2005 to request an appointment to be vaccinated next week for a few minutes. Specifically, Sergas has given for several minutes the possibility of making an appointment for two days, July 27 and 29, in the morning.
This appointment window was blocked shortly after when the available doses were exhausted and the Sergas appointment platform remained ‘down’ for several hours, until late at night.
Throughout the morning, the Department of Health avoided clarifying what had happened and referred to the explanations that President Feijóo would give after the weekly meeting of the Galician government.
