The 29th year of the highest Slovak football competition will start with the Friday match of AS Trenčín – FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce-Vráble. The first round of the Fortuna League is spread over three days due to the duties of three clubs in the European Conference League (FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda, FC Spartak Trnava, MŠK Žilina).
The two-time defender of the home double Bratislava Slovan will present himself on Saturday at the newcomer of the MFK Tatran Liptovský Mikuláš competition, who will play his home matches in Poprad.
On the same day, Ružomberok will welcome Senica, which last year was saved in a play-off against Banská Bystrica. On Sunday, the vice-champion of the past season of FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda will start on the field of MFK Zemplín Michalovce, MŠK Žilina will host Sereď and Trnava Spartak will close the program with a home duel with FK Pohronie.
Slovan will be led by the former national team coach Vladimír Weiss Sr., who in the summer attracted several experienced players (Jaromír Zmrhal, Jaba Kankava, Guram Kashia), as well as young blood (Adrián Chovan, Dávid Hrnčár) to the twelfth title in the modern era. The goal of dominating the home scene is already primal for Slovan, more emphasis is given by the club management to achieving success in Europe.

Before the start of the season, it was clearly stated that it would try to qualify for the group stage of one of the three cup competitions in order to at least partially cover the losses associated with the coronavirus pandemic. At the moment, Slovan is competing with the Young Boys Bern in the 2nd preliminary round of the Champions League, he drew at home with the Swiss champion 0: 0.
The biggest competition for the “whites” should again be Dunajská Streda. Interesting reinforcements came to Spartak Trnava, which hired its former player Roman Procházka and won the attack on the permanent transfer from Rijeka to the North Macedonian representative Milan Ristovský, who also presented himself at EURO 2020.
The “youth” of Žilina already tormented the water on the upper floors last season, and it can be expected that players will perform even better under the baton of the ambitious Pavel Staň after gaining valuable experience.

Due to the qualitative composition of the team, Senica will probably not avoid the fight for rescue, and Sereď, Liptovský Mikuláš and Michalovce will not expect an easy season either. During the summer break, coaches were replaced by up to half of the teams – AS Trenčín (Peter Hlinka), MFK Ružomberok (Peter Struhár), FK Senica (Pavel Šustr), MFK Zemplín Michalovce (Miroslav Nemec), ŠKF Sereď (Juraj Jarábek) and FK Pohronie (Gergely Geri). Apart from Liptovský Mikuláš, Sereď will also not play home matches in his city, and again he has been helped by Zlaté Moravce.
In the new year, it will be played exclusively with the new adidas Tiro Pro balls. The ball from the adidas workshop replaces the existing Uniforia, which fans could also watch at the recently concluded European Championship. Another novelty is the change of broadcaster. Friday’s match of AS Trenčín – FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce – Vráble will be brought by the premiere station Nova Sport, which will broadcast the selected Friday match live every week. League football will again belong to TV Dajto every Sunday.
