As we approach the next Samsung Unpacked Event on August 11, an increasing number of details have emerged about the foldable units that are expected to be presented during the event.
Earlier today we heard about a possible price list for the devices that have been leaked online ahead of the Unpacked event, where we got to see the prices for both Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3.
This was quickly followed by a post on Twitter from the credible leak Max Weinbach, who shared information about a long-awaited feature for Samsung’s upcoming folding devices.
According to Weinbach, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 will be the first foldable devices to offer IPX8 rating, allowing them to be lowered to a depth of more than one meter.

What you need to know about IPX8
Given that Samsung’s Z Fold and Z Flip units are the company’s most expensive premium units, it would have been a great relief for many users if their expensive investments were no longer completely ruined by a little water splash or an accidental dip in the sink – provided that the rumor turns out to be true.
This can be seen as a particularly important feature for this year’s foldable devices, as it seems that Samsung wants to attract Note users to the Z Fold 3 with the rumored S Pen Pro support.
A water resistance at level 8 would definitely have been a fantastic addition to Samsung’s foldable range, but it is worth noting that this particular X-Class does not promise anything about dust resistance.
The reason for this is that the surface tension of the water (approximately 72 mn / m at room temperature) has a much stronger molecular structure than ultrafine dust, which makes it more difficult for water droplets to break into small holes (such as those at the mobile speaker grille).
Will dust be a problem?
If you remember back to 2019, you may remember that early Galaxy Fold test drives were affected by a number of sustainability problems – of which one problem was that dust entered the hinge mechanism.
Luckily remedied Samsung did this relatively quickly by implementing a dust-resistant hinge that used small brushes to get rid of dust particles from the device. This leads us to believe that the possible lack of dust resistance in the X-classification should not be a major concern.
But the IPX8 rating is not even officially confirmed yet, so we will simply have to wait and see what Samsung has planned for us on August 11th.
