The number of infections in our region appears to be stabilizing. This is announced by the GGD Groningen in its weekly update.
Since last week, 2,792 new infections have been added in the province of Groningen. “The huge increase in the number of infections in our region has stabilized in the past week. The infection rate in our region is 536 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is above the national average of 407 per 100,000 inhabitants. Also this week we see a lot of infections among young people in the municipality of Groningen. The scaling level of our region with this infection rate and 5 hospital admissions per 1,000,000 inhabitants remains unchanged ‘very serious’.” Since the start of the corona crisis, 44,560 people have so far tested positive for the virus in Groningen.

Age distribution
The age distribution of people with a new infection has changed slightly in the past week. The proportion of young adults remains very high at over 70%. The proportion of people aged 30 and older has increased in the past week. In the age group 0 to 14 years, the infection rate is 4%, last week it was 1%. In the group 15 to 19 years, this is 19%, compared to 20% last week. In the age group 20 to 29 years, the rate has dropped to 58%, last week it was 74%. In the group aged 30 to 65, there is an increase from 6% last week to 19% now. Also an increase in the group 65 and older from 0% last week to 1% now.
Development
Most new infections were found in the municipality of Groningen in the past week. That was 971 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In the municipality of Westerkwartier it concerns 472, Het Hogeland 408, Midden-Groningen 314 and Veendam 292.
Coronatesten
15,029 people were tested in the various test streets in the province of Groningen in the past week. Of them, 2,192 received a positive test result. This is about 14.6%. The number of tests taken and the percentage of positive test results have decreased slightly in the past week.
Vaccinations
In Groningen, 42,835 vaccinations were administered in the past week. 63% of Groningen residents now have a first shot and 43% are fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of January, 487,109 shots have been taken in Groningen so far. These are both first and second shots.
