Los Angeles (AP) – Leslie Grace, who recently shot her first film with the musical “In the Heights”, has now been awarded the title of “Batgirl”.
The 26-year-old singer and actress from New York, whose parents come from the Dominican Republic, prevailed against fellow campaigners like Zoey Deutch and Isabela Merced, as the industry journal “Variety” reported. You could not believe it at all to play the Batgirl character Barbara Gordon, Grace said happily on Twitter. “I will give her my best!” Promised the young star.
The superhero film is directed by the Belgian directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (“Bad Boys for Life”). Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee”, “Birds of Prey”) provides the script. Filming is scheduled to start in November.
The Batgirl character first appeared in comic books in the 1960s. The story of the fictional superhero revolves around Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner James Gordon, the Gotham City Police Commissioner. Alicia Silverstone had a small Batgirl role in “Batman & Robin” in 1997, opposite Batman actor George Clooney. After numerous bat films, Batgirl is now receiving her first independent film.
