A total of 428 patients are now in hospital with Covid-19, the disease caused by the corona virus. That is 13 more than Tuesday, according to figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS). There are now 322 corona patients in the nursing wards, 7 more than on Tuesday. The occupation of the ICUs rose from 100 to 106 Covid patients.
On Tuesday, the LCPS recorded the largest increase since the end of May. At that time, 20 people were brought in on the ICUs and 76 on the nursing wards.
Hospitals expect a further increase in the coming period, as the number of corona infections has risen sharply in recent weeks. Ernst Kuipers, chairman of the National Network Acute Care (LNAZ), said last week that he takes into account that the total number of corona patients admitted can rise to approximately 800. He expects hospitals to be able to handle this.
It is expected that a smaller proportion of people who contract the virus will now end up in hospital than during previous peaks of infection. This is because now mainly young people have become infected. They were behind on vaccinations, precisely because young people rarely get so sick from the corona virus that they have to be hospitalized.
