Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MULTI-FUNCTION) Asrorun Ni’am said that the mention of a muezzin as a person who calls and invites prayer in the procession of Prayer Eid al-Adha there is no problem from the side of Islam.
He said that in response to the President’s teasing Jokowi mentioned that there was a muezzin in the implementation of the Id Prayer at the Bogor Palace during Eid al -Adha.
“So in the context of the Eid prayer, the muezzin mentioned is the person who calls for the Eid prayer. So, it doesn’t matter from a religious perspective,” Asrorun said in his confirmed official statement, Thursday (22/7).
Asrorun stated that the meaning of muezzin that Jokowi meant was someone who called. In the context of the Eid al-Adha prayer, he said a muezzin was tasked with calling for the Eid al-Adha prayer to begin. Not pronouncing the call to prayer as understood by many people.
Asrorun said that in Indonesian tradition, literally muezzin is also known as Bilal. However, he said that Bilal was the name of a friend of the Prophet Muhammad which became a general term.
“In the context of the Eid prayer, a muezzin is tasked with calling for the start of the prayer. The person can be the same as the imam and khatib, or different,” said Asrorun.
Furthermore, Asrorun assesses that the mention of the term muezzin or bilal is not related to religious teachings. So that there is no need to dispute the meaning by the general public.
“Our energy needs to be devoted to big and strategic things, especially steps and contributions in overcoming covid. Don’t waste energy on trivial, insubstantial things and hate narratives. That’s not good,” said Asrorun
Previously, netizens had criticized President Jokowi’s Twitter social media with criticism. They questioned Jokowi’s tweet about Eid prayers at the Bogor Palace.
Citizens questioned the meaning of the muezzin in the Id prayer at the Palace. They question it because the Id prayer is a sunnah prayer that does not begin with the call to prayer.
