Qualcomm will release new chips for Wear OS

Just before the launch of Samsung’s new smartwatches, which, unlike other Wear OS watches, are powered by an Exynos chip, Qualcomm points out that they are still in the game.

Qualcomm will make a significant increase in its investment in the Wear Olympics and release new Snapdragon Wear chips in the coming year, according to a press release. That Wear OS had a problem with the hardware that drives the watches is not only Qualcomm’s fault, as manufacturers rarely used the best chip.

The press release also offers statistics: Qualcomm has delivered more than 40 million Snapdragon Wear chips in over 100 countries, which are available in over 250 different models from more than 75 manufacturers. Since virtually all Wear OS watches offer Qualcomm chips, the figure may reflect sales for Wear OS in general, which in that case pales in comparison to that for Apple Watch.

Qualcomm quotes manufacturers in its post, including Fossil Group, as saying that they will release the “best possible” Wear OS watch later this year.
