Suara.com – Targeted assault incident President of Mali while, Assimi Goita on Tuesday (20/7/2021) local time. The president was attacked for being stabbed after performing the Eid al -Adha prayer in congregation at the grand mosque located in the Bamoko district.
Luckily, the president survived the attack incident.
An attacker suddenly ran towards Goita who was about to leave the mosque to see the procession of slaughtering the sacrificial animals.
“Attempted stabbing of the Transitional President, Colonel Assimi Goita at the Great Mosque of Bamako. The attacker was immediately arrested by tight security forces. Investigations are ongoing,” the presidency said. Mali in a statement posted on his official Twitter account as reported by CNN, Wednesday (21/7/2021).

While France24 reports, President Goita is in good condition after the attack incident occurred.
“That’s part of being a leader, there’s always discontent,” Goïta said in a statement broadcast on state channel ORTM.
“There are people who from time to time may want to try things that cause instability,” he continued.

Still according France24, a journalist AFP who witnessed the attack said the attackers suddenly ran into Goïta, who was quickly taken away by the presidential guard.
The reporter also said he saw blood at the scene, although it was not clear who was injured.
An official in the president’s office later said Goïta was “safe and sound”, following what was labeled an assassination attempt.
Goïta arrived at the Kati military camp, outside the capital, “where security has been strengthened”, the official added.
Assimi Goita initially served as Mali’s interim vice president after leading a coup in August last year that ousted President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
In May 2021, Goita then ordered the arrest of Bah Ndaw, who served as president after the coup. He also arrested Prime Minister Moctar Ouane who later resigned in custody and was released shortly thereafter.
That same month, Mali’s Constitutional Court declared Assimi Goita the new interim president.
