Passing through Martinique, the world junior fencing champion, Kendrick Jean-Joseph, began an internship yesterday at the Martinique Institute of Sport in Lamentin.
Until Saturday, around thirty trainees will have the opportunity to be trained by the Martinican sportsman. This morning, Kendrick Jean-Joseph took care of a group of children from the Durandal weapons room.
Yannis Cornéli, 17, is a fencer in this room. And he has only one hurry, to face the junior world champion in the tournament which will take place on Saturday:
This can push many young people to accomplish and work to reach this level. It’s an opportunity to compete, so we can judge our level in relation to him and even beat him. I have already confronted him, and it gave me help, conviction and resources to progress in the future
A real opportunity to introduce new people to the discipline, according to Jocelyne Genteuil, president of the Durandal weapons room:
We have a busy week, and we have invited all the halls to come and taste the pleasure of doing or redoing fencing. We offer the opportunity to touch a weapon, to know what fencing is and then to know that we can reach a high level when we give ourselves the means
