However, Sean Dyche’s Burnley has made his move and today signed the Wales goalkeeper to a two-year contract following his release by Crystal Palace.

The 34-year-old Hennessey, who left Selhurst Park earlier this month, was the substitute for Wales number one Danny Ward at Euro 2020.

Burnley said on their official website: “The Clarets have added a more proven Premier League pedigree to their squad with the capture of record-breaking Wales international goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

“Hennessey joins Burnley as a free agent following his departure from high-level rivals Crystal Palace and has agreed to a two-year deal, with the option of one more year, at Turf Moor.”

The former Wolves Hennessey goalkeeper, Wales’ most capped goalkeeper with 96 appearances, will compete with Burnley’s English international Nick Pope.

Hennessey, on the bench during Wales’ four Euro 2020 matches, has made a total of 181 Premier League appearances with Wolves and Palace and has also been on loan at Stockport and Yeovil.

It is the Clarets’ second summer transfer following the arrival of defender Nathan Collins from Stoke for an undisclosed fee.
