Beselare suddenly has its own vaccination center. A sign along the Beselarestraat leads you to the front garden of Wim Veeckman. “The Beselaar witches are not vaccinated here in the upper arm, but in the buttocks,” says Wim. “In response to all the misery surrounding the AstraZeneca vaccine, the witches have brewed their own AstraMiserica vaccine. I already received a lot of positive reactions, because it looks so playful.” Other residents of the wizard parish were also inspired by corona to put together mischievous witch scenes. For example, at ‘Sefa’s Zomerbar’ you don’t get a vaccine, but witch potion against corona and a lot of witches try to get their big crooked nose in a mouth mask. “Our call to bring out witch scenes and witch flags in the period before the Witches’ Parade was clearly heard: new ones are added every day,” said Charles Bayart, chairman of the Witches’ Parade. “The villagers are creative and the atmosphere is good. No virus can defeat our witches and inhabitants. We are doing our best to bring our unique witch atmosphere to the village, so that walkers can enjoy it coronaproof this year too. For the first time in a long time, dot flags with witch’s purchases and copies of the party game Witch-O-Poly are again for sale for the new residents.” There are also a few small-scale corona-safe events this weekend. “The archers’ guild organizes a witch’s shooting, the Landelijke Gilde a pop-up bar and there are the story walks Solfer and Salpeter,” says Bayart. “Some well-known procession elements are displayed on the market to promote next year’s procession.” As a witch already proclaims from a balcony in the main street: Noaste joare we are doa up July 31, 2022.
