We now know the names of the 10 nominees for the title of best player of the year 2021. Two Africans are on this list of the Globe Soccer Awards. These include the Algerian Riyad Mahrez and the Egyptian Mohamed Salah. If the Portuguese star of Juventus Cristiano Ronaldo was also acclaimed, the Argentinian Lionel Messi, who has just won the Copa America 2021 in Brazil, was the great forgotten of the organizers of this honorary trophy.
Author of a great season with Manchester City, champion of England and finalist in the Champions League, Algerian international winger Riyad Mahrez was nominated for the title of best player of the year 2021. He was thus acclaimed in the top 10, alongside the Polish Robert Lewandowski (Bayern), winner in 2020, the Portuguese star of Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo, but also the Italians Jorge Luiz Frello Filho, better known as “Jorginho” and the goalkeeper goal scorer Gianluigi Donnarumma, winners of the last European Nations Championship.
Second top scorer in the English Premier League with 22 goals in 37 games for Liverpool, the Egyptian Mohamed Salah was also named, as was the Belgian striker of Congolese origin from Kinshasa Romelu Lukaku. The only scorer for Argentina’s victory over Brazil (1-0) in the 2021 Copa America final, Angel Di Maria is also in the race for this honorary title, as are the Englishman Raheem Sterling and the Norwegian Erling Haaland.
Best player and top scorer of the Copa América 2021, Lionel Messi, who is also the only player to have won the top scorer trophy of the Spanish league 5 times in a row (8 trophies in all), is the biggest forgotten this year from the organizers of the Globe Soccer Awards.
