Previous incident

This is not the first time that a Premier League player has been investigated or arrested for child sexual abuse.

Former Sunderland player Adam Johnson was convicted of the affair in 2016, after having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl, and was sentenced to six years in prison.

In 2019, he was released from prison after serving half of his sentence.
