Jakarta –
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) talks about the best vaccines against COVID-19. Jokowi uncover vaccine the best are those that are readily available and the quickest to obtain.
“What is the best vaccine to deal with Covid-19? The answer is simple: the best vaccine is the vaccine that is already available and you can get it the quickest,” Jokowi wrote on his Twitter account, as seen on Monday (19/7/2021).
Jokowi also uploaded an illustration photo of the community being injected COVID-19 vaccine. Through vaccination, Jokowi hope that Indonesia will soon be free from the pandemic.
“Let’s get vaccinated immediately while still adhering to health protocols. Only then can we end this pandemic,” said Jokowi.
3 Provinces Become Jokowi’s Focus for Vaccination
Jokowi previously requested that vaccinations for West Java, Central Java and Banten be boosted. The reason is, the achievement of vaccination in the three provinces on the island of Java is still low.
This was conveyed by him during the COVID-19 Pandemic Handling Meeting (Emergency PPKM Evaluation) at the Merdeka Palace, Friday (16/7). The activity was broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube, Saturday (17/7).
“The third relates to which province, which region takes precedence. I saw the figures, Jakarta and Bali yesterday we really wanted to put first. Bali has 81 percent of the dose that has been injected, DKI has 72 percent,” said Jokowi.
“I think August will have finished entering herd immunity. Then which province should we focus on now? In my opinion, three, West Java, Central Java, and Banten,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi then reads out vaccination achievements in West Java at 12 percent, Central Java at 14 percent, and Banten at 14 percent. If vaccination in these three provinces focuses on vaccinating their citizens, Jokowi is optimistic that Java Island will reach the stage of herd immunity no later than mid-September.
“So that Java immediately entered the herd immunity We hope that in late August or mid-September at the latest,” Jokowi said.
Known, originally COVID-19 vaccine available in Indonesia is Sinovac. Then on the way available too COVID-19 vaccine others, namely AztraZeneca, Moderna, Sinopharm, Pfizer which have obtained an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) permit from BPOM. Pfizer will also enter Indonesia in August 2021.
Jokowi’s statement was made in the midst of a lot of attention regarding the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine, which is mostly used in Indonesia. Experts from the western world who are quoted by international media often attribute the high spike in the Delta variant of corona in Indonesia to the low efficacy of Sinovac, a vaccine produced by China. In response to this, the government through the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the Delta variant could reduce the efficacy of all vaccine brands.
Looking back, Indonesia, which is not a vaccine-producing country, had to fight hard to get vaccines at the start of the pandemic. Indonesia finally chose Sinovac as the vaccine that was imported for the first time. Here’s the journey:
Sinovac, First Vaccine Available
As is known, the first Corona vaccine that Indonesia chose was the Sinovac vaccine. Indonesia is also one of the countries conducting clinical trials for this Chinese-made vaccine.
Indonesia through its state-owned company PT Bio Farma collaborated with Sinovac to immediately produce the Corona vaccine in April 2020. At that time, a number of countries continued to develop the Corona vaccine because the COVID-19 virus continued to spread. Sinovac, which is a Chinese company, has already conducted a phase two clinical trial.
In the midst of a crisis that forced a number of countries to immediately present a Corona vaccine, Indonesia also chose Sinovac.
