The Dutch police have not yet received a request from Spain to arrest the eight suspects of the fatal assault in Mallorca. “As long as there is no request, the police cannot take any action here,” a police spokeswoman said.
The eight Dutchmen assaulted another Dutchman in the seaside resort of Playa de Palma on Wednesday. The 27-year-old victim was taken to hospital in critical condition and died last night. Three others were also injured. One of them, a woman, lost consciousness.
According to the Spanish police, the victims were attacked out of nowhere. The suspects, all between the ages of 18 and 20, had been kicked out of a nightclub earlier that night and then caused trouble on the street. When they met the Dutch, they knocked them to the ground. The man who has now died was kicked hard in the head.
Fled home
The suspects took the first plane back home the next day. A ninth suspect, who had stayed behind to hand in the key to the holiday home, was immediately arrested. The police know who the other suspects are and therefore ask the Dutch police to arrest the group.
“But that request had not been received this morning,” said the police spokeswoman.
