Three marauders were detained in a flood-hit German city, DPA reported.

The news of the Eschweiler arrests was announced personally by the regional prime minister of the western province of North Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Lashet. He expressed outrage at the looting of homes at such a critical time.

Eschweiler, near Aachen, has been hit hard by the floods.

“I am furious when I hear that people are returning to their devastated homes to find that looters have stolen what little they have left,” Lashet said on television.

In some of the affected areas there is still a danger to the population. Mobile connection in some places has not yet been restored.
