The United States infectious disease expert who recently hit Twitter, Dr. Faheem Younus, recently mentioned the use of drugs Azithromycin. This antibiotic is indeed much sought after for self-isolation (isoman), it is believed to be effective in treating COVID-19.
“Azithromycin does not prevent or cure any variant of COVID. However, it can cause fatal cardiac arrhythmias. Don’t take it for COVID. This has more risks than benefits,” he explained, quoted from his official Twitter account @FaheemYounus, Sunday (18/7/2021).
Azithromycin, however, is a registered hard drug. Its use must be under the supervision of a doctor, and should not be purchased carelessly without a prescription.
In its latest recommendation, 5 specialist medical professional organizations no longer include Azithromycin as a mandatory drug for COVID-19 isoman patients. Drug Azithromycin should only be given in severe and critical cases with suspicion of coinfection with typical microorganisms.
Another drug that is also ‘excluded’ from mandatory therapy for COVID-19 isoman patients is Oseltamivir. This antiviral drug, which is also marketed under the trade name Tamiflu, is only given when there is suspicion of influenza coinfection.
