Hamilton: “Max never left me room” – F1 Piloti – Formula 1

At the end of an incredible British Grand Prix, conditioned by the frightening accident suffered by Max Verstappen at the start after a contact Lewis Hamilton, just Hamilton took his fourth win of the season, his eighth in his career on his home track. Second place for Charles Leclerc, with Ferrari, on his first podium of the season. The Monegasque held out in front of everyone for the entire race, yielding only in the last two laps to Hamilton’s comeback. Third place for the other Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas. The top three were interviewed by Jenson Button.

Lewis Hamilton (1°, Mercedes): “Something really overwhelming. Beautiful weather, with the best audience in the world. Our audience is the best in the world. Thank you guys. I am very grateful to the fans. I hope everyone is safe and returns home without problems. I could not have done all this without the extraordinary work of Valtteri and the team. Reassemble with the penalty? It’s hard. I gave it my all this weekend. I went to the factory trying to extract those extra tenths of performance. I am proud of all the guys, they continue to work even if we are behind. In the approach to the race I knew that I had to face an aggressive rival like Max. Today I joined him and he never gave me room. But beyond the penalty – whether I agree or not – I took the blow and kept working trying to do my job and enjoy the audience. We will hear the national anthem and see the British flags ”.

Charles Leclerc (2 °, Ferrari): “Difficult to enjoy this moment. Incredible race, I gave 100%, actually 200%. I gave everything I had, but it wasn’t enough in the last two laps. Congratulations to Lewis who did an amazing job. Seeing so many fans in the stands is extraordinary. I was missing something in the car, even though it was a nice car today. I didn’t think I could fight for the win, we expected to be competitive enough after qualifying but not that competitive. We fought for the win and that was incredible. With the medium tires we were very fast, with the hard tires we lacked a bit of pace to compete with the Mercedes. But overall we were stronger than usual. The team is working incredibly well. I am really proud of the team. Being able to do these races is beautiful. Show everyone that we are working well, doing right things in the right direction. We must continue like this. Not everything will go smoothly to get to the top, but we will do everything to do it “.

Valtteri Bottas (3 °, Mercedes): “Tough race. Our weakness today was the departure. I skated a lot. As happened to Lewis yesterday. This made my life difficult. We had to react to Lando’s stop at the beginning, so we stopped too early to be competitive at the end. But we still took Lando and helped Lewis win. From the team’s point of view, excellent points and a very strong weekend. Now I’m going to drink “.
