JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TVThe Chairperson of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Asfinawati, criticized the government’s way of handling the coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic so far.

The woman who is familiarly called Asfin admitted that she was surprised that the government had never used Law Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine to carry out its obligations in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the government actually uses the Health Quarantine Law when giving sanctions to citizens who are considered to have violated the restrictions.

“In terms of sanctions, why use the Health Quarantine Law. But when quarantine is applied, why not use the (same) law,” Asfin said at his press conference on Sunday (18/7/2021).

According to him, the government has the impression of avoiding its obligations to meet the basic needs of citizens during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This, he said, can be seen from the various terms of restrictive policies implemented by the government from the beginning until now.
