After having achieved the feat of keeping the festival in dark rooms last year, the thirty-second edition of FID Marseille will be held from July 19 to 25, 2021 in various venues in Marseille, notably the Théâtre de the Odéon, the festival’s new anchor point.
Resolutely turned towards new cinematographic writings and artists’ films (documentaries and fictions), this new opus will offer 110 films (documentaries and fictions), representing 39 countries, all competitions combined, most presented in international premieres, accompanied by meetings with a host of guests. An exhilarating marathon for moviegoers and festival-goers curious to discover new narrative and visual forms of contemporary cinema.
Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, guest of honor

This year, FID Marseille will welcome one of the most important contemporary Thai filmmakers, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, to whom the festival will pay tribute through a retrospective. Awarded several times at Cannes, then Palme d’Or in 2010 with Uncle Bonmee, the one who remembers his past lives, the filmmaker will come in person to conduct a masterclass and present several screenings, in particular his new feature film, in official selection at Cannes this year: Memory, with Tilda Swinton and Jeanne Balibar. Apichatpong Weerasethakul will be awarded the Grand Prix d’Honneur for all of his work, Monday, July 19 at the Silvain Theater, during the opening night.
A poetic opening night in the presence of Eric Cantona and Rodolphe Burger
It is under the sign of poetry and music that the charismatic Eric Cantona, and the rock musician, Rodolphe Burger will open the festivities, Monday July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Silvain Theater. Accompanied by actress Rachida Brakni, the two accomplices will come to present Hand to hand by Priscilla Telmon and Mathieu Moon Saura. A film made during the closing evening of the Printemps des Poètes at the Chapelle du Méjan in Arles. A poetic recital that mixes guitars and vocals, verses and music in which Rodolphe Burger sets to music the texts of Eric Cantonna, Olivier Cadiot, Mahmoud Darwhish and Missak Manouchian, without forgetting a cover of the famous British group Joy Division. The screening will be followed by a live concert by the group “Mademoiselle”, composed of Rodolphe Burger, Sofiane Saidi and Medhi Haddab.
