The Council of Mayors of the 48 Cantons of Totonicapán issued a statement this afternoon regarding the situation of the country, in which they once again highlighted the importance of the unity of Guatemalans, in addition, they reaffirmed their commitment to citizens to demand compliance with the Government promises, highlighting vaccination against COVID-19.
The president of the Board of Mayors of the 48 Cantons of Totonicapán, Martín Toc, was in charge of issuing the statement, which he took the opportunity to thank for the support they received this week for the reception of the Atanasio Tzul Chair.
“We want to reaffirm to the entire population our commitment to start working and demand the fulfillment of the promises made by the Government since the beginning of its term, emphasizing that we are going to start demanding… that they give us clear accounts on the issue of vaccination, which is very important to know, ”he argued in the local park.
Toc said that this implies knowing the vaccination deadlines and that they hope to begin to see concrete results.
In addition, he warned that speeches and demagoguery should be avoided in order to postpone the commitments assumed by the Government, since he considered it important that the entire population see results and clear accounts to continue moving forward.
At the same time, he stated that they will work on other issues of relevance to the country and that they will demand that the Minister of the Interior, Gendri Reyes, become involved in actions to counteract the murders of women in the country; He stressed that this sector is important to raise its voice.
WORK TOGETHER
In his message, Toc invited organizations and indigenous peoples to start working together from now on, so that the voice has more strength and echo.
He remarked that in the Assembly of Mayors they reached agreements and that they expect results from the Government, “they are stronger than ever and here is the Council of Mayors that supports me,” he said.
EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS ACHIEVED WITH UNITY
As part of the agreements reached between mayors, he mentioned that they will meet with other indigenous peoples to work together and that is why he believes that it is important to send a message of unity to the country, because with it they will be able to advance towards the development that everyone wants, “everything we will always achieve it with unity ”.
Regarding vaccination, he explained that they will seek to meet with the Minister of Health, Amelia Flores to provide them with specific deadlines, “we hope to inform the population of all the agreements and that will be the first step to take.”
Finally, he referred to the demonstrations, reiterating that they are open to seeing concrete results and for the benefit of the population.
Toc asked the population to be vaccinated, because he knows that there is little consent to do so and asked the population over 50 years to go to the authorities to be immunized against Covid-19.
