Mobile sales: – Xiaomi past Apple

The analysis company Canalys has reviewed the global sales figures for mobile manufacturers in the second quarter, ie the period April to June.

Chinese Xiaomi is climbing wildly there and is now the world’s second largest mobile phone manufacturer after Samsung. The Korean giant still has 19 percent of the market, but is now breathing down the neck of Xiaomi, which accounts for 17 percent of mobile sales – measured in number of units.

Apple is thus pushed down to third place with a market share of 14 percent. Chinese Oppo and Vivo follow in the next two places – each with a share of 10 percent.

Increases the most

Compared to the corresponding quarter last year, Xiaomi is increasing the most – they have sold as much as 83 percent more phones this year.

Xiaomi past Apple

All of the five largest manufacturers have increased sales since the first quarter of the pandemic last year – Samsung by 15 percent, and Apple by one percent.

In total, the market grew 12 percent from the second quarter of 2020 to the second quarter of 2021.

Still cheaper average phone

It is worth noting that the numbers do not look at the value of the phones sold, but the number of units.

Canalys comments that the average Xiaomi phone costs 40 percent less than the average Samsung phone, and 75 percent less than Apple’s average phone.
