Bayern test game: Telekom with stream problems – DWDL.de

Less than a week after the final of the UEFA European Championship and Italy’s title win, Julian Nagelsmann’s first appearance as coach of FC Bayern Munich was scheduled for a game on Saturday afternoon. Telekom broadcast the friendly game against 1. FC Köln on various platforms – or not. Because the rights for the games (unlike the matches on the coming Saturdays, which will also run on RTL) were exclusively held by Magenta, the streams should be available free of charge and therefore also for non-customers. But many football fans looked into the tube.

The MagentaSport app only displayed error messages. MagentaSport spoke of “technical problems” a few minutes after kick-off, promised to work on a solution and apologized. Of course, the anger of some Bayern fans was already great. The straightforward solution was then presented a few minutes later, when the game had been running for around fifteen minutes. MagentaSport streamed the match via Facebook – according to the social network, the stream reached high four-digit usage figures within a few minutes. During the first half, MagentaSport also referred to the Facebook stream within the app. The broadcast was later streamed via YouTube.

Meanwhile, the linear MagentaTV program was not affected. Here the Bayern test was transferred to program 319. What exactly caused the error at MagentaSport remains unclear. But one cannot speak of a blackout. In response to a DWDL.de request, Telekom said: “We are sorry that the match could not be seen on all platforms. Due to the large number of platforms on offer, we were able to offer the fans an alternative. Nobody had to go to Julian Nagelsmann’s first game renounce as Bayern coach. “

In the past few weeks, Deutsche Telekom had received a lot of praise for broadcasting football. MagentaTV broadcast all the European Championship matches. It shone the on-air team around Johannes B. Kerner, Jan Henkel, Wolff Fuss and Michael Ballack – and the audience numbers were right. The AGF determined this using so-called audio matching and found that the Germany game against the French was watched by an average of 580,000 people aged three and over on MagentaTV – these data meanwhile only relate to the IPTV distribution channel. Further use, for example on mobile routes, is not included.
