The Chinese Contingent Uniform at the Tokyo Olympics Floods Criticism

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Contingent uniform China for Tokyo 2020 Olympics which was only officially released on Wednesday (14/7) received criticism from netizens.

Reported South China Morning Post, the dark purple suit with light purple stripes and red collar is worse than the uniform worn at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The Chinese contingent at the 2016 Olympics wore bright red and yellow blazers and said they looked like ketchup and scrambled eggs.

More than 120,000 netizens made scathing criticism on the 163.com news portal about the uniform of the Bamboo Curtain Country Team.

“This is uglier than fried tomatoes with scrambled eggs. We can call this a little wild boar outfit,” wrote one netizen.

“This is a combination of bathrobe and pajamas,” another netizen commented.

“It’s like a circus uniform. Is it because the Olympics were postponed and held against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, so we prepared for it [seragam] casually?” asked another netizen.

Not only that, Hong Kong actor Kenny Ho Kar-King asked his followers on Chinese social media application TouTiao about the Chinese contingent’s uniform at the Tokyo Olympics. He also asked who the uniform designer was.

Kenny Ho Kar-King’s tease got a response from his followers.

“Even an old woman in a rural area wouldn’t wear this kind of frayed flower skirt,” says Ho Kar-King’s follower.

“It doesn’t matter who designed it. What matters is how it was approved,” said another follower.

But according to fashion blogger Chao Ren Zhi at Baidu, today’s uniforms are in line with contemporary aesthetic standards. In fact, he also said that the Chinese contingent’s uniform this time had shown the elegant taste of the Chinese.

“From the style of the format to the color, this uniform set is more refined and discreet. It shows the elegant taste of the Chinese people. It also incorporates elements of traditional Chinese culture,” he said, referring to the similarity of the women’s skirt fabric pattern to the famous blue-and-white porcelain in China. .
