Actor and producer Jackie Chan has expressed his desire to become a member of the Chinese Communist Party. He said this during a symposium organized by the China Film Association, the South China Morning Post reported.
During the event, the actor stressed to those present that he was “proud to be Chinese.”
“I also envy the fact that you are a member of the Communist Party. I think the Communist Party is wonderful because everything it says and promises will surely come true in a few decades,” Jackie Chan said.
“I want to become a member of the Communist Party,” he concluded to loud applause.
The words of the legendary actor caused controversy in Chinese social networks. Many users said he was not worthy of party membership because of his lifestyle.
In particular, Chan was reminded of the extramarital affair, as well as the drug-related crimes of his son Jesse.
On July 1, the Chinese Communist Party celebrated its centenary, with more than 95 million members.
