Valve Releases Steam Deck, Handheld Game Console Era Is Not Dead : Okezone techno

Not only that, Sony’s opinion was also strongly rejected by Nintendo five years ago. The gaming company created something that managed to blur the line between handheld game consoles and home consoles with its Switch which became a must-have device for gamers.

Nintendo Switch managed to sell more than 84 million units and get a lot of upgrades in its latest versions, first with the Switch Lite and now with the Switch OLED, all existing versions are still selling well for Nintendo fans and even ordinary gamers.

The Steam Deck is also a Switch-like device, created by Valve so gamers can enjoy games on the go, in handheld mode, or at home, with docking mode. Basically, the Steam Deck is a Nintendo Switch with no Nintendo games.

Even though Valve has been releasing their own “console” lately, such as the Steam Box and Steam Controller a few years ago, it’s estimated that Steam Deck won’t be able to replace the Switch; however, for Valve fans and Gabe Newell devotees, Steam Deck can certainly create a small niche in the gaming world that is quite significant.

Sony executives claim that mobile gaming will kill handheld consoles does not appear to have happened. The two types of platforms have different markets, mobile games with free-to-play markets that rely on light games and microtransactions, and handheld console games with exclusive markets for each developer that rely on games with a budget of thousands of US dollars.

Entering the second half of 2021, Nintendo is still the leader in the field of handheld consoles. Even so, some companies still feel brave to follow in Nintendo’s footsteps and create their own version of the Switch.
